Honestly, I always wondered how so many girls I went to school with ended up pregnant. I mean, weren't we in the same sex ed class? And then, I start wondering about sex ed- do they even have that anymore? Based on some of the outlandish claims I hear-- either, I don't think so, or, they are not very effective classes? Is it because people are dropping out of high school before they have this class? If you watch trash tv, and hear some of the reasons men don't believe this is their kid- some of them are the stupidest things I've ever heard. One guy claimed he had the mental power to block his sperm from coming out... needless to say-- Maury told him "You ARE the father" Emoticon

Here is a very interesting article. Seems the law is not what finally stated a decline in teen pregnancy but a tv show. You decide.

If you add being drafted into the Vietnam War to the list, it would be 10.

My self I am always shocked when women come out against equal opportunity. When you think about the type of jobs they had back then compared to now they made more advances then any other minority.

@tinytim : Sadly, even though there have been advances, it is still nowhere near equal. To name a couple of remaining issues, women of childbearing age or who have young children are still passed over for job opportunities and pay is still not equal. We'll get there one day. Like you said, things have progressed in the past 50 years. It was better for me than it was for my baby boomer mother. It will be better for my daughter (who is 15) than it was for me. Considering that it's taken 50 years to get to where we are now, maybe my granddaughters will be on equal footing....maybe. Even though there are anti-discriminations laws, employers still find ways to skirt around them.

@MrsT : Since you can get an abortion without parents consent and they hand out condoms in schools I doubt it.

@JustSayn : I never had anyone hand me a condom. I believe I read in the article from the convo the other day that in Texas IF sex ed was taught abstinence was to be the focus.

As far as I know, Humble ISD has never distributed condoms. I went through high school here in the 80s and they didn't then. DD is in high school now and they don't. I just asked her and she has never heard of that. She said sex ed in middle school was "literally just anatomy and stuff like that", so nothing at all about birth control.

@Sammee : Um, If you have young children and the other person applying does not and I need someone to work 90 hours a week how can I even consider the person with children? This is not discrimination.
