I don't understand the concern about Putin meddling in our elections. Don't we meddle in politics around the world in a similar fashion or worse.
@tflea :
Well perhaps so. However what makes up different is we like to believe that we're not vulnerable to this sort of thing. But what has been made painfully obvious is that we are. And maybe more so than some other countries. In our culture we rely heavily on social media because we have open access to information. As such a foreign power like Russia can have great success planting stories and stirring up trouble pitting one side against the other.
Furthermore it's my belief that 45 has been the perfect foil for this. Because he has a habit of telling outright lies and half truths it makes us even more vulnerable. That's why a massive operation like the Russians pulled off is so dangerous for allegedly the last remaining super power.
Of further concern is the Russians have given the blue print to other hostile actors. So now they know there's no need to go in blazing with guns and soldiers. Just plant a story about a politician running a child trafficking ring out of a pizza joint and millions of us will believe it. Some of us will even be willing to go in the store with bullets flying to "rescue" the children.
Hey I have to give the devil its due. They've studied us well and played our prejudices and divisions to perfection. And we have a president that's refusing to acknowledge it's even happening. Oh well...
