When is casual attire not appropriate? Or is it that in our society now casual attire is appropriate in all situations. Just got off the phone with a buddy of mine. He went to a funeral and some of the people were upset that a man showed up in a T-shirt and jeans.

People were like surely he had a nice coat and tie he could have worn. What say you?

My husband doesn't own a coat or tie but a nice shirt and pants I think would suffice. You should see the way people show up at interviews at my job.

@rocket : Maybe he couldn't afford a nice coat and tie; or, maybe he thought he had a nice sports coat to wear, only to find out it no longer fit properly.

@eighteen :

Personally I wouldn't have shown up in a T and jeans. At the very least I would have worn a sports coat, collard shirt, and slacks. And if I didn't have it in my closet I would have considered going to an inexpensive store and purchased it. But that's just me.

@nikkiole : One year they wanted me to do interviews for a hiring event but then never called me up to do them. I'm so grateful because I saw them and I don't think I could keep a straight face. 😂. So many of them looked like they just rolled out of bed. My husband does interviews and he's like if they don't dress properly I doubt I'm going to hire them. An interview should be you trying to put your best foot forward. If this is how hard you try to look presentable, how hard will you try at the actual job?

@MrsT :

I used to interview candidates at my job. And I completely understand what you're saying. I'd see some of the outfits and think to myself seriously? Did you think you are applying to work at a night club?

try not to judge others; just worry about myself, and I would not wear casual to a funeral. But there may be a reason for it. Went to a business event last week where the code was for business casual and a number of folks showed up in tee shirts and untucked.

I observed a coworker perform interviews in flip flops and unshaven - - oh hell no - for me.

Personally I am trying to progress to not communicating like I just left the military for PC purposes.... kind of falls along the same lines...

If it is cold , I wear a coat. Otherwise , if I have to dress up for any event , I would rather not go.

I personally would make an effort to dress nicely (& nothing loud) to a funeral. What's casual to one person may be absolutely tasteless to another. Did anyone see Jason Momoa at the golden globes. He took his jacket off because his wife was cold. Emoticon

I guess I would just appreciate the fact that he showed up. Taking the time to pay your respects is always a plus in my book.

Business casual.... have you seen how our school teachers dress now days? What a horrible example they set for kids. No wonder no one dresses nicely anymore.

I think it shows a lack of respect for the person that passed away to show up dressed like that. I've seen lots of nice things at HAAM and Goodwill - including some nice men's suits!!
