New study shows just how much money you need to earn to be happy in Houston

Based on the methodology, this is what you'll need to earn to be happy in Houston:

Salary you need to be happy: $110,040
Salary you need for life evaluation: $99,560
Salary you need for emotional well-being: $62,880-$78,600

The Purdue researchers determined that, globally, individuals would need an income of $60,000-$75,000 for emotional well-being and an income of $95,000 for life evaluation.
The ideal income for life satisfaction in North America is $105,000, which was used as a benchmark for the "salary needed to be happy" category listed in this study.

Agree or disagree?

You will definitely be middle class and comfortable here at a $100k in Houston.

@Weathergirl5 : Me neither. I guess I'm happy enough, but it could be much better. My life may be anticlimactic as I am very low middle class at this point, but really money just makes you comfortable, it does not bring you happiness. Happiness would be if my monthly bills were half of what they are. Happiness would be if we could afford to eat meat every day and to be able to go somewhere local once in a while and travel 2 weeks out of the year.

@HumbleGirl : And yet, I'm still basically a happy person, have many good friends, although they aren't down here, and a wonderful family that I'm really in love with and proud of.

@chasinghosts : I think for me money would buy more security rather than happiness.

Who ever said money can't solve your problems must not have had enough money to solve them- Arianna Grande 😂😂

@nikkiole : Yes, so wise yet still so young. Not really. She wishes she was the first to say that, but she's about maybe 70 years too late. Someone should tell her that there are really actual things that money can't buy.

chasinghosts : I don't know...I can't think of a single problem that I have that money wouldn't be able to solve or at least make significantly easier...Money may not be able to buy happiness but it can buy things that bring you happiness. And it can give freedom and a sense of security. And it certainly can't buy good health....but it can afford you that great health insurance that may as well be the same thing...

@nikkiole : Ahhhhh, you're still young. You may be easily convinced of that now, but for me, it can't bring my stepkids or my baby Grandson back or cure Cancer yet, or replace the things from my past that had great meaning to me that my nephew stole. Hopefully it will help take care of my baby Granddaughter's heart. I'm hoping that Dr. used his money wisely on his education. You'll understand after you've lived some more life. Money is temporary and insignificant except to keep your bills paid, pay for a home, car and food. Anything else is meaningless if you don't have the other things you truly care about.
