The explosion in immigration to the United States from sub-Saharan Africa coincides with a steep drop in the migration flow across the Mediterranean to Europe after European countries and two main embarkation points - Turkey and Libya - decided to crack down. From Jan. 1 to June 12, only 24,600 migrants arrived in Europe by sea, compared to 99,600 over the same period in 2017, according to the International Organization for Migration.
People from other countries that do not share our same values and who have not shown a willingness to assimilate (Google the large Somali communities of migrants to our country) concern me a lot. I love cultural enrichment as much as the next person. I just have concerns about those who believe we as Americans are inferior and deserving of their hatred. Assimilation is very important.
@EastTexGal : How do you feel about the Amish community? Are you worried about their unwillingness to assimilate? They even teach their children German - English is their second language.
@nikkiole : Why are they coming in at the border seeking asylum there rather than channels available to everyone in the world? Because they get a free ticket into the country immediately while they await their asylum hearing in 3 years or they are sneaking in and accidentally getting caught, then seek asylum and get the same 3 year wait. They are skipping the legal line with no intention of showing up for their hearing. Why can't we fix this? No wall required. Just no automatic asylum hearing for those seeking it at our border would fix this. Meanwhile, as they are waiting they receive food stamps, subsidized housing, Medicaid, etc. We provide this until their hearing because they are unemployed and awaiting a ruling on their asylum. Our tax dollars pay for this. Word has clearly gotten out that we are a giving nation. Meanwhile, citizens of the US can't afford their medications and the homeless population is exploding. This will be a 3rd world country very soon if we don't get this in check. Scoff if you will.
