I would really like to know a couple of things from Karmelo Anthony. 1. Why would he not just leave the tent when asked/told?
2. Why was this pocket knife already in the "open" position?
3. Why did he have a knife with him at the track meet in the first place?

I have a serious issue with people who antagonize someone so they can get a response, then they react violently and call it self-defense.

@West-Tex : @MrsT : So he only has to serve 17 years before he's eligible for parole, right? I sincerely hope parents start teaching their children how to act. This kids' parents are responsible for his actions and should also be held accountable.

I've never understood people who protest jury verdicts--regardless of the trial or verdict. What in heaven's name do they think they are accomplishing? The jury heard the facts. We presume that they made the best decision possible based on the facts that were presented. The protestors (whoever they are) can stomp their feet all they want. It still will not change the verdict. So what's the point? There's no way that I'd ever be in that mess. It only takes one hothead to have someone else do something bad and then the whole trial thing is rinse repeat. I don't get it.

I don't think there are any true winners here. A kid without a fully formed frontal lobe made a poor decision. His decision created a broken family and as a result broke his own family. Two young lives and their families are destroyed forever. He'll be 53 when he leaves prison. As a society, he'll be our problem to deal with.

Very true- no winners at all. The victim is gone and his family will never be the same and society has to pay for the killer for 35 years and then he will be free to kill again.
Hopefully his parents have re-evaluated their parenting plan and the younger siblings don't also end up criminals.
