@RajunCajun :
So, yes, PA is beautiful. I mean, Texas has its own unique beauty, but growing up in the mountains of PA, in a little town less than one square mile, it was definitely culture shock rolling into Texas.
When we had Meema and Poppy down, she was just amazed though, because it was so "green"! I guess everyone expects it to be deserts and tumbleweeds lol
We're about 6 years out from retirement. I doubt we will go back to PA, but we're not going to stay in Texas either, at least that's not the plan.
Looking at Tennessee. Good retirement state as far as taxes are concerned, 4 seasons, but none of them as extreme as the the others, meaning the winters aren't as cold as PA, the summers aren't as hot as Texas.
My husband really enjoys hunting and fishing, and he just doesn't get to do that here. Me? I can be entertained just about anywhere!

@Cbear :
errrr... yerp! I also enjoy the fact that if we see a flake of snow here, I don't have to go anywhere!
When we had to move back to PA in the 90's, I went back under one condition... that I never had to drive in the snow/ice again!
Down here, I'm fine with it, it's never like it is up there. My issue with it here is the other drivers!

Don't blame you about the drivers. I have issues with other drivers every day of the week. Lol

I love Tennessee. I like the 4 moderate seasons, too. Seems like your dh could hunt and fish in Texas. I have friends on Friendswood who have a deer hunting lease. Our son in law likes to fish in Galveston area.

@RajunCajun :
OMG yes. And now, since the accident, I'm like totally paranoid. I just keep wondering which one of them and their shenanigans is going to kill someone.
The other day, in all that fog, we had one chucklehead who, even though traffic was moving at a good clip, not under the speed limit, had to do his whole "weave in and out" at about 90 mph. Just stop already.

I totally understand. My dh wants to retire ASAP. The commute is a big reason. He said the other day he had people tailgating so bad that he couldn't see their headlights. He was a basket case by the time he got home, and he doesn't scare off easy. I'm totally supportive of him retiring a bit early. I'm tired of worrying about him.

We are about 2-5 years from early retirement and we are interested in TN and AR, for all the beautiful scenery.

Arizona was lovely. And no bugs! However, I believe the heat there will actually be worse than here.

@cheryltom : we talked about moving to Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, or north Carolina
Love em all. Probably will never happen because we have a daughter who lives 20 minutes from here and another who lives in Houston. I really don't want to move farther away from them.

@RajunCajun :
I think he's gone a few times to Galveston to fish, one of the guys he works with has a place down there, but the cost of a deer lease and all the other stuff, as well as it being too damn hot for him...
In PA, you have state game lands, and everyone hunts there for free...
