@ladybeachbum : The money is coming from the homeowners already in the area paying for their homes, taxes and bills. It's already been stated that the current owners will pay the land,MUD, and school taxes for this community. Yet they can't afford a home but can afford a boat???

Are we being punked? Seriously, when did earning $95,000 a year start qualifying as low-income? Low-income enough to get government subsidized $300,000 homes....with boat docks....and ampitheaters....and restaurants?? Will the restaurant food be subsidized, too? I mean, they already can't afford to pay for housing, so how are they supposed to pay for their boat, fuel for the boat, storage for the boat, as well as be able to pay for their restaurant food? I can tell you, it's obvious from this deal that DH and I did this **** all wrong.

@Sammee : $95,000 a year is not at the poverty level. Someone is in cahoots with a developer. Is it HUD?

@carol888 : That was brought up at the meeting. The doofus engineer said that he's looked several times and has not found a nest.

The nimby crowd at its finest. Represents a very tiny community in a massive growth area.

The criminal aspect and the waste of prime waterfront real estate on nonwealthy are the only real arguments against;. But it seems that with the multitude of apartments and lower end housing in higher end subdivisions, we already have our criminal faction.

This community will be next to the water inlet station extending into the lake, so there would be that drawback to those seeking prime waterfront property.

As far as unfair to the rest of us for taxes, this covers the entire region tax base, not just the few around here.

@redneckroy : I couldn't disagree with you more. It is absolutely ridiculous that an outdoor theater is planned for this development. How is that helpful to the poor? A huge expense -complete waste of money. There are other valid objections as well, but I won't bother with repeating them.

@redneckroy : Also dock and boat slips. Again, major expense that will not help the poor to better their situation. I'm so tired of paying tax money for all of this bogus junk.

I think the dude giving the meeting really rubbed people the wrong way with his "you're all going to have to pitch in" comment. 😂

@MrsT : He also rubbed the crowd wrong when he was grandstanding that poor people deserved the same things that the rest of us had. Several people there commented about how many of years of education they had and how hard they worked and still didn't have a waterfront view.

@RajunCajun : I'd go! Do they take big lovable dogs? I just got rid of our boat we never used but with cheap housing, I could buy another one.

I really don't understand the frustration here…

Pros: 1) nice housing development that is good for neighborhood and community 2) major investor - just like any other investors 3) will house working people who pay their taxes like everyone else 4) will inspire people for greatness rather than degrade them with a slum mentality 4) will help the entire community grow and proper 5) with local support and uplifting, could increase the value of surrounding homes

Cons: the goals and possibilities of this new development adding value can be sabotaged by negative thinking, resentment and retaliatory acts

Please don't choose that path - think positive and embrace this investor like you would any other real estate investor.

If you think positive, it will turn out positive for the entire community.
