The View at Lake Houston 🤔

Have any of y'all been following this? I think it's been brought up before. I was watching video from a meeting last night and it was kinda crazy. I'm confused as to why there is a boat dock and amphitheater. And the land can't be taxed because the housing authority owns it. The man holding the meeting actually said " the remainder of the community is going to have to chip in a bit more."

I put this over here so more people can see it, but I'm sure it will end up bumped to the other side. 😂

I went to that meeting, and it was ridiculous. No real answers to current residents' legitimate concerns. As several people in meeting noted, I'm all for helping folks a bit, but an amphitheater, dock, pool, boat slips? Ridiculous. Why can't they follow the lead of Habitat for Humanity and build good quality, but basic, housing? This is beyond insane. Frankly, I smell a rat. The HISD made 2 offers on this property and both were refused. Why?!! What's in it for the folks on the housing board to turn this down?!!!!! Why the luxurious accoutrements?!! I tend to be highly suspicious of politicians/gov't officials given that I'm from Louisiana. This ain't my first rodeo with government corruption. lol.

Assuming this is that subsidized housing project that's been discussed here a couple times. Not sure why I should "chip in" to pay for someone else's living space that has more amenities than mine... Let's keep our plans practical here folks. This isn't a plan for a vacation resort, it's housing for those who couldn't otherwise afford it.

@Floyd : Exactly! They had several people at the meeting that mentioned that they had been working for YEARS at professional jobs and couldn't afford digs like this.

Ok, so if we chip in for it, we can use it.

@MrsT : First I've heard about it. Emoticon

The boat dock is there to provide boaters access is what I presume. Kind of like Lake Houston Brewery.

Oh, so this is a housing project community with extravagant amenities?

@eighteen : Yes but LHB is on Private Property and is taxable. They are trying to use this to have a tax buffer from what I'm getting here. Who has non taxable entertainment complexes?

I'm wondering if the restaurant, amphitheater, and boat docks will be open to the public to offset costs. I don't imagine a whole lot of people on subsidized housing own boats Emoticon

When my daughter was born I lived in a rat infested rent house in Aldine. So I'm all for affordable housing and giving people a chance to have something they can be proud of. I usually roll my eyes when people get up in arms about it, hell we don't make alot of money ourselves. But watching the video of this meeting was pretty ridiculous.

It just doesn't make sense to me, but I also hesitate at the hype. I'm undecided at the moment and needing more input.

@Floyd : Well if they do own boats then they should sell them so they can afford housing or "chip" in

@MrsT : I can't seem to get where this is going to be built. I have heard about something more towards Kingwood but this looks like it would be water front towards the Beltway., What am I missing? Why put low cost housing on expensive land?
