To All the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department – EMS group,
On Wednesday June, 4 at approximately 8 PM your team responded to a Traffic Collision-High Mechanism call in the Quail Tree run area. The well prepared, well-oiled team of the AVFD-EMS were directed to a scene, not knowing exactly where to respond (in the woods). It turned out to be a 16 year old motorcycle rider, who had been riding with a group of friends. This rider had jumped a ramp (he was wearing all of his motto cross protective gear) that launched him 20’ in the air. His bike continued forward as he released it and the rider found himself in the air. He landed on his feet, but upon impact broke his left ankle completely in half. His right knee went completely backwards, shattering it and the same leg broke right above the knee. This also tore all ACL and other muscles in the leg. During surgery, they found he had also fractured his left hand. This rider is our oldest Grandson.
AVFD-EMS your team’s quick response and perseverance to find and stabilize him speaks volumes to your continued training and to your dedication to professionalism. Let me also add you made his ride to Memorial Herman Trauma in the Med Center entertaining (and comforting), instead of one of fear. We applaud you!!!!!! Our family has lived in the Atascocita area since 1978 and we still remember the old AFVD wood red barn in Atascocita Forest, where you allowed cub scouts to meet. The ever changing growth of this area and the ability for the AVFD to grow and stay on the leading edge has never waned. It is a privilege for all the Atascocita community area to know that when we lay our heads on our pillows at night…the AVFD is there.
Update on grandson ….no internal or brain injuries. Many surgeries to come on his knee and ankle.
Again, from us his grandparents and all of our family …thank you for being there.
