ParksideRes : What is invalide? For a renter their rent, and sales tax, what else is missing that actually makes a faction of a percent?

@M1cha3lo0o : the renter is literally paying the property tax for the place that they are living in. Period. That is an effective tax.

"Not only does rent cover the cost of the loan, insurance, and property use, but every renter in the state is also paying property taxes, whether they know it or not. "

That would include any tax that is paid on that property that is a percentage of that property's value.

@ParksideRes : Right but they don't see that rate because the housing and renting market is to artificially inflated.
So trying to say the difference between taxes is in the rent place where one place is 40%+ more expensive and saying they are paying less taxes than you ends up being meaningless in the end.

Rent prices are not that reflective of property taxes, most landlords are just greedy.

I have not raised my tenant's rent in 9 years.
And if I did by my property tax increases over 9 years it would literally only work out to $127 a month.

tinytim : Been telling people that for years, people still can't grasp it.

@ParksideRes : People always said well at least you don't have to pay State income tax, and I have always said better to pay $3-400 a year than pay twice that in sales tax.

@ParksideRes : ok
Poor Texans might pay $600 more a year in taxes, but those poor Californians pay $600 more a month in rent. ( well unless they living and pooping on the street. )

But they can be happy technically their taxes are less.
😁

@chasinghosts : you would have to make less than $30k to only pay $300 to $400 in state income in California, and would have to spend $70,000 ( since TX sales tax is 1% more than CA but soon 1.5% less then some CA cities ) on items that have sales tax to pay $700 extra in sales tax throughout the year.

I might be a little off but I am sure ParksideRes will double check my math Emoticon

Surveys and statistics are made by how you want it! Anyone can make it look to their advantage.

Please tell this to all the Californian's moving here! That way they can stay in the state they ruined by electing all the folks who put ridiculous rules in place that they wanted.

California property values are so inflated . A $600,000 home in California is a $200,000 or less home in Texas. It's all relative

Ref: California Cost Of Living......

Don't forget, Californians make about 24% more than Texans....So, what seems "costly" there to Texans isn't so to Californians....

@Maxsmom : Same goes for a lot of places. In Illinois and Ohio you may pay twice as much for your home than you would here in TX, but you'll also get twice the quality in workmanship. Rent up there however is generally less unless you live in a high rent district. They pay higher taxes but get more for what they put in. I don't know much about California other than they do have strict codes and specs they have to comply with for buildings, and they do the same up north. You also have to be able to go back on someone if there's a new build and it's not made right. Here you may just be SOL because they sell business permits, deeds and titles like they sell BBQ .
