If the county has to respond to your alarm and you don't have a permit they will charge you for making the call. There is no charge for the permit if you are over 65...

@Pixie : If you pay for an alarm service that is notified if your alarm is set off, then yes, you need a permit. If you do not pay for an alarm service and simply have the door and window sensors installed, the no, you do not need a permit because the police will not be notified if your alarm is set off.

Obviously paying them for the wasted time the LEO have when they finally respond....By the time they actually get there, since burglar alarms are a "low priority" call, the burglars have already got what they came for and split probably more than an hour ago....Do yourselves a favor....DITCH the "monthly monitored alarm" scams and put that money into a good quality set of surveillance cameras that will be able to record those burglars in action so when the police finally get there in 3 or 5 hours they'll have a "birds-eye" view of what the suspects look like and what they did....Video will even be useful as "evidence" should it be needed in court....
