I'm not offended but I agree that the poster could have been designed better. We each have a responsibility to make a best effort to treat others well and why shouldn't we want to?

@HumbleGirl : 318.9 million people in the US. You could have a team working around the clock their entire lives and they will never create a poster that someone somewhere doesn't find offensive.

Even if they made all the characters purple with bald heads someone would still find fault with the damn thing

@yomom : stick figures are too skinny and make the not so skinny people feel discriminated against. The backyardigans are named Uniqua, Tyrone, Tasha, Pablo and Austin. Judging by those names one would obviously see that the white population is underrepresented.

You can find fault in anything if you look hard enough.

Maybe the answer to this problem is that people should stop looking so damn hard

Make them all black and there would have been no issue. I personally do not know one white person that would have complained about an all black poster. We would have seen the educational value in it and left it at that. Just checked an article in Yahoo and it states that black children ages 5 to 14 have a drowning rate three times that of their white counterparts. Maybe EVERYONE should be reading the safety poster without racial intent. It may saves lives.
