PREPARE FOR STRONG WINDS AND RAIN TOMORROW There is a lot you can do around your home to help protect it from the upcoming strong winds and rain.

Constable Mark Herman would like to provide you with the following tips to keep you safe and make your home safer, stronger and more storm resilient.

- Pull anything from your yard that can become a projectile and smash through a window or worse. That includes lawn furniture garbage cans and grills but also smaller items like decorations, planters, hanging baskets, bird feeders and wind chimes.

- Anchor heavy objects that cannot be brought inside, such as grills or propane tanks.

- Trim tree branches away from house. Prune dead branches that are weak enough to break off when the wind picks up. - Reinforce windows and doors with plywood if possible.

- Bring all animals and pets indoors if possible. Do not leave dogs tied up in the yard.

-Park your vehicles inside garage if possible.

Didn't realize that it was supposed to get THAT bad. Just one more reason I'm glad that we actually use our garage to park our vehicles. I know a lot of people use them for game rooms, storage, etc. But I love using the garage as a garage for all sorts of reasons - bad weather being one of those reasons.

I'm sorry, but this is not very convenient at the moment. We are trying to get cook off tents up and this pushes everything back a day. We'll figure it out.....

@West-Tex : We could definitely be looking at tropical depression or even tropical storm force winds. Get ready for some power outages. Looks like we could also get some really heavy rain around lunchtime to early afternoon. Everyone be weather aware and stay safe on those roads.

@Smokeybear : Oh no that's right. The cook off is this weekend. I hope it passes quickly and you can start getting things set up afterwards.

@West-Tex : Definitely a good day to stay indoors. Too bad this nasty weather isn't hitting Wednesday when I'll be home from work.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Severe storms are likely across southeast Texas Tuesday due to a storm system moving across the area. Heavy rainfall may cause flooding. Strong winds are possible and maybe even a couple of tornadoes.

When is severe weather possible on Tuesday?

Showers and storms could form during the morning hours, especially south and southwest of Houston. Storms could increase by around noon through about 4 p.m.

What are the severe weather threats Tuesday?

Strong winds and heavy rain are likely to affect some areas. Some models show more than three inches of rain possible in spots, so street flooding is quite possible. The tornado threat increases by late morning early afternoon as the storm system moves through the area.
