The most predominant color that I have seen myself or in pictures taken by others in this area is green. Purple is the next color that I've seen here. I've seen pictures from the Auroras in Fairbanks that are more colorful, adding red, hot pink and white.

I need to organize better and have my camera gear ready for this. These would look way better on my Nikon and with a tripod... with the iPhone I have to hold still for a few seconds.

But seeing the auroras is a chase... we have been out many nights, driving to secluded locations hoping for a better showing and... nada! It's more miss than hit, at least in Anchorage... people in Fairbanks have a better shot at them.

@sandman : Me too. I first saw them in 1971 Homecoming night. They were green and mostly purple that night.
