Atascocita Man Arrested After Opening Fire on Harris County DeputiesEarly in the morning of September 23, Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for service in the 18600 block of Atlantic Drive in Atascocita.Upon arrival, deputies were met with gunfire from a suspect later identified as Kenyon Levor Coleman (DOB 12/15/77), who was armed with an automatic rifle and allegedly lying in wait in a wooded area. Fortunately, no deputies were injured. Investigators believe the weapon jammed during the encounter, preventing further shots.Coleman fled into the woods but was quickly located and taken into custody. His weapon and a large amount of ammunition were recovered at the scene. He was dressed in all black and had a chair positioned in the wooded area, indicating premeditation.
The original call appears to have been a false report, possibly a swatting incident.Coleman has been charged with Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer and is currently in the Harris County Jail.
