Mount tv to wall with no studs?

Has anyone mounted a tv to a wall without studs behind it?
We bought a 10 inch wide tv mount for our 37 inch tv. The mount isn't fancy, very basic.. We just want the tv on the wall.
Well the thing is... We get home to find out the studs over the fireplace (only place to put the tv) the studs are 30 inches apart... So we are in a pickle... So I look online to find we can still mount a tv to the wall if we get these things called, Strap Toggles... But after various trips to different hardware stores.. I ended up with.. toggle bolts 3/16 x 3, each bolt holds 70 pounds as stated on the packing, and we bought 8 to use on all the areas that need to be screwed into the wall for the mount.. and I'm afraid to us them. My tv is 37 inches wide and less then 40 pounds I'm guessing.

Has anyone needed to mount a tv to a studless wall and what did you use? Again I am in an apartment, and I don't want it to fall out of the wall. ( no place to put tv stand because of fireplace)

Our walls are thin.. do you think it will pull the wall out ? I don't wanna pay to replace a big whole in the wall..

Iv seen that video already.. we couldn't find the strap toggles, only toggle bolts

No studs in that wall? Is the drywall just floating? Not really buying the premise there.

But the straps are interesting. Never seen 'em.

There are studs but 30 inches apart, and out basic tv mount is only 10 inches long.

I want the tv centered.

I was talking about the video. The straps seem like good solution for you. I'd trust them way more than Molly bolts.

Or, you could always span the distance with lumber and attach your mount to the lumber.......ugly, but solid.

You have a big problem. Lack of studs.

And no, do not mount without studs it will fall.

@hippie90 already knows where the studs are......and they are an egregious 30" apart........apartment style.

I personally would sacrifice aesthetics for strength and run 1" lumber across the span and attach the mount to the lumber......but I am a peace of mind type person.

And I've made the lumber structure look kind of pretty before, too. Just depends on your your tools and creativity.

I lIke clyde'S suggestion, but here is a thought with minimal extra effort. Remove drywall between studs, insert cross brace in wall, replace drywall, hang tv.

Drywall patch is really an easy diy project.

I would make sure it is solid. I would not accept anything hanging from sheetrock.

@Clydepuckett :

My exact thoughts . The Tv is 37 inches wide so a 30 inch board or if need be to fit the bracket thing that will be hung you can get Lowes to cut a piece of plywood 30 inches wide &(( screw)) it into the stud . So when you leave you can take it down & fill in the holes you made . With a piece of plywood if you need 8 inches high or 15 inches high you can get the height you need to fit the bracket on . They normally have scraps they can cut it from .

I'm with Clyde also....my posts were just a guide, but I would not hang it on Sheetrock alone. We had the almost the same issue, but we only had one stud, almost in the middle, so we bought one of the extending arm brackets that have two large lag bolts that go into the stud.

3 years later, it's still up with no issues.

Get a couple of these, some rope and hang the tv between them. Problem solved

UPDATE. TV HAS BEEN MOUNTED Emoticon
We decided to mount it evenly between the window and screen door instead of evenly over the fireplace so at least half of the mount was on the studs in the wall. Thanks for everyone's input.
** well not completely even... But it works lol
