McDonald's is doing books in their kids meals. They are small but complete books . They are perfect for a toddler or preschooler's hands. There are 5 in total. They include 2 Pete the Cat books, two Of you take a mouse, and Paddington. They are really well made.

My son and I went to McDonald's yesterday and I got him a kids meal. When we sat down, I noticed he didn't get his toy or his apples. The lady across from us was eating a happy meal and offered my son her book. He loves to "read" Once he got the book, he was no longer interested in the food. Before we left, I asked for his book (and he got a different one) so we only have 3 more to collect.

Lame…

Nobody opens a happy meal and says "oh yay, a book"

The "cancer" runs deep in some of these companies.

@Woodsman: apparently not the case since the OPs child loved it. I appreciate that they are helping foster reading over giving out cheap plastic junk. My kids loved books. They would have been cool with getting a new book. I already told our adult kids that I will give books when I visit the grandkids instead of junk toys. Of course, they will be cool books because that's how I roll🙂

@Woodsman : I disagree. I would have been delighted at that age, and my son would have also been thrilled. I'm not exactly certain why you are referring to giving away children's books with "cancer"

My kids like to get books. We have at least 3 of those already. Plus it's something they can actually reuse, those toys usually end up in the trash here.

@mom2mms : I love that idea! Better than a cheap toy that will break.

The books are fine until someone or some organization involved in the culture war insist that they contain images or language that are offensive. Or that said books may cause a certain class of children to feel bad about themselves. This is the lunacy in which our society currently finds itself in.

I find this amusing.
Topic went from a cute idea for the kids to your gonna die.
I guess it is just a matter of perspective.....imho.

I personally love the idea of the books, so thank you for sharing.

So take 'em to the library…maybe you can talk the librarian into passing out Big Macs. 🤣

@Woodsman: we did both. I loved that our children had books of their own. I still have some of them. But I also loved bringing them to the library. We had a library on the entrance to our former neighborhood-easy walking distance. I loved bringing them there because we were on a tight budget and they could get as many books as they wanted. We often times couldn't buy stuff in the store and had to say no. But they could get as much as they wanted at the library.

@Woodsman: yep. Promoting literacy is a serious societal problem 😂

So, I did a quick report on circulation stats for last month for my library.
There were 10,611 books checked out from just my branch in the month of February. I subtracted the DVD check outs from our total.
1553 of those were adult fiction.
1342 were juvenile Easy Readers
1968 were juvenile picture books (like the ones being given away at McDonalds)

...and I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've seen those prized Happy Meal Toys in a garbage can. So, what's your point?
