This doesn't make sense to me. He's worked there for 20 years and was about to retire. Why fire him? What does "he wasn't able to do his job like a normal person." mean? 20 years!

@West-Tex: that is so sad he was treated that way after 20 yrs. It sounds like he will get the retirement party, but he probably wanted to keep working as long as he could.

People w/ disabilities want to contribute to society! They don't want to be looked at any different.

Which one of us can be called "normal"? We all have something wrong, you might not be able to see it on the outside.

This makes me so mad!

I took special needs kids to job sites for training for 14 years. I even got some of them employed. Some of them loved to work and they were good workers. My autistic kids were very good at some jobs that "normal" kids would not do because they thought they were boring. As an employer, you just have to find what works best for those with special needs.

I had a buddy in high school that fell from a hay ride and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He worked at Walmart for many years and was terminated 2 years before pension. There are still ******s on finance teams that feel like ******* individuals like this over is worth the micro amount of funds they save the stockholders, but miss the human component and public relations black eye.

@West-Tex : That is a heartbreaking story. I'm glad his family has decided not to let him go back to work there after Wendy's officials said he could be reinstated. No telling how management and fellow employees would treat him upon his return. Instead, he gets to have the retirement party he has always wanted.

@jtec : Something would have been nice. I understand small business can't afford to keep paying forever but big companies should have something in the plans.

@jtec : I wasn't referring to Wendy's just saying it might be impossible for a small to do.
