chasinghosts : I was 11 yrs old in 1959 & they sold out before you could blink your eyes . So I got mine in 1960 . I was pleased to have a grown up mom doll . Barbies were for older girls . I didn't know any young kids with them .

@bbk : Got my first in 59 because we shared 2 things special. I remember being curious about them and noticed the differences but didn't go exploring for several years.

@flipflop : If I was going to a party at one of my friends grandchildren home I wouldn't have thought to read about a doll on the box . And I wouldn't have thought to open it & look at it . Because I had no idea till today as to what some m,others learned . And the box doesn't give the info . So to see the nipples on the doll you have to put her in cold water ..And I wouldn't known I needed to put the doll in cold water . I'd have given the doll as a present with someone in the store telling me these dolls are real popular .

Actually, she recently shared with me how much it meant to her that I let her play with those fancy collectors Barbies. She said none of her friends' moms would let them play with theirs and they were so happy to be able to come here and play with them.

@bbk : I sold my mom's mint never taken out of the box #2 Barbie on ebay a few years ago and it sold for over $3k. If I had the knowledge I have now for selling it, I would have done things differently. I mean the Barbies hair was still pinned up like it was from the factory. Plus she had some cute extra clothes and accessories.

@Andi7 : I have my mothers 1934 Shirley Temple doll . That is the first year they were made & she the doll , is now 86 yrs old . She's a composition doll. Composition dolls were made from approximately 1909 through 1950's .

@Sammee : My cousin bought her daughter every one that came out, kept them all boxed and paid for her college with them. Best investment she ever made.
