Jesse Jones Park…. Attended a beautiful educational day " NatureFest" a couple of weeks ago.
The Wildlife center of Texas was there with 3 "Ambassadors"… a Falcon, a Hawk and an owl…. Extremely educational and they helped greatly with species identification for you bird lovers.
The TX dept of Public Health was there tagging birds and checking for diseases. The girl shown is checking a Yellow Bellied SapSucker.
The photo with the guy holding the weed looking plant ( he was sweet enough to hold so I could photograph) is of a ground cover that most think are weeds but the guide was explaining that it's a plant used in healing products and skin care. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for these. Be sure if you do find that they are veined thusly or you'll just be rubbing your burn with a garden weed!
The park is gorgeous. I had no idea. Can't believe I've lived here all these years and never have gone to it. It's really not as far as I had believed. If you head toward Humble on 1960, just stay on 1960. Once you pass over 59, it's only a few miles further. You will actually turn right on Kenswick Drive. It is a neighborhood but keep going straight. The park is at the end and it's incredibly lovely.
The walking, riding spaces are wide enough and well taken care of for those that run, walk, bike, use walkers or wheelchairs! There are toilet facilities, boat launch for kayaks etc but it's a put in only. You'll have to be prepared for pickup at the end of your destination. ( think frio River tubing).
I only saw a small portion as I was there for the fair but will definitely be going again. Here are a few photos from the days event.
Be sure to look them up as they hold multiple events weekly/ monthly. Great for Scout troops, nature lovers and honestly anyone that needs a breath of fresh air and zen.
