Seventeen Humble ISD band, choir and orchestra students were selected to All-State Performing Ensembles. This is the highest individual honor a high school musician can achieve. The 17 students were honored at the April meeting of the Humble ISD School Board.

“Students selected for TMEA All-State Performing Ensembles are selected through a rigorous multi-level audition process that runs from September through January and starts with over 70,000 entries,” Humble ISD Assistant Director of Fine Arts Dustin Winson said. “Students begin the process as early as July, working to perfect multiple musical selections before beginning the grueling audition process. The performers must make their way through All District, All Region and All Area auditions to finally be selected to perform as a member of the Texas Music Educators Association All State Band, Choir or Orchestra. All State Musicians represent the top one percent of their instrument or voice in the State of Texas.”

The All-State Band selections included Atascocita High School junior Jake Casillo (French horn), Humble High School senior Jordan Stairs (tenor trombone) and junior Andres Herrera (cornet/trumpet) and Summer Creek High School senior Jackson Bowman (tenor saxophone).

The All-State Choir selections included Atascocita High School senior Sarah Squires (Soprano 1) and junior Bonzja Achtermann (Bass 2), Kingwood High School seniors Ennis Watt (Bass 1) and Aaron Hatcher (Bass 2) and Summer Creek High School’s seniors Stanford Smith (Bass 1) and Sofia Plata (Alto 1) and juniors Shelby Dotson (Alto 2), Khye Colbert (Bass 1) and Kayla Cistrunk (Alto 2).

The All-State Orchestra selections included Atascocita High School’s Zach Argomido (violin), Kingwood High School’s Slava Tchoubko (bass) and Summer Creek High School’s Zach Houlton (cello) and Thomas Feng (violin).
