Harris County Sheriff Investigator Deputy Darren Almendarez shot and killed 3/31/22

Harris County Sheriff's office is mourning the loss of an officer. Harris County Sheriff Investigator Deputy Darren Almendarez was shot at the Joe V's parking lot after he confronted three suspects stealing a catalytic converter.

The off duty Harris County Sheriff Deputy was shot at a grocery store parking lot at 2929 FM 1960 and Aldine Westfield Road. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but he passed away due to his injuries.

He served for 23 years and most recently served in the auto theft division.

@AtascocitaDotCom : Horrible. Law enforcement is always hazardous but it seems there've been so many recently.

I have never seen so many criminal acts around this whole county that I have seen in the last 2 years. They going to have to build skyscraper size jails to house them all.

@dac2010 : They already have a solution. These idiotic judges let them out of jails so they don't have to build a skyscraper
