Greenspoint Mall has permanently closed. I heard today that they were going to demolish it and build apartments.

Surprised it took this long. Wasn't a darn thing left in there.

It was the only mall on this side of Houston back in the early 80s. Lots of memories going there for back to school shopping and Christmas shopping. Of course, there was always the Humble Weiner's. Lol

I worked there for about a year 15 years ago. It was an education in ticket switching. 😂. They had a Cici's, that was literally the only thing I ever went into the mall for. Made friends with some coworkers and we rode the bus to the casino. It caught on fire on the way back and we were stranded at a gas station Arby's for a few hours. Good times.

My first experience of Greenspoint Mall was visiting Sears to say hi to one of my coworkers that had transferred from the Deerbrook location. It was 1999 and I had never really been into a high-crime area. I was looking at the Craftsman tools and noticed they were all locked up, I asked one of the associates why everything was behind a cage and he said so people don't steal it. It was probably for the best to close it down but I don't see anything changing with apartments going up there, probably will get worse.

@Maxsmom : That is a bad idea. That area floods really bad. They better really build those apartments up high.

@Weathergirl5 : There is a lot of flooding around there. But there's so many apartments built across the street from it. And I guess that's the only income that would be profitable.
