@mrb1
After reading that book, you realize how many songs he has written, that have actual events and meaning.

The Arcane Texas Fact of the Day has to do with Stevie Ray Vaughan and, this, his favorite guitar, which he referred to variously as his "wife" or "number one." Stevie got this guitar ---- described as a “ragged American Stratocaster with 1959 pickups, a ’62 neck, and a ’63 body n finish, upside-down tremolo bar, cigarette-burnt headstock” in 1974. He got it from Ray Hennig's Heart of Texas music in Austin. The Arcane Fact is that this guitar's previous owner was Christopher Cross, the Austin musician who had series of smash hits in 1980 and 1981, including "Ride Like the Wind," "Sailing" etc... Ray told me in his shop one time that Christopher Cross came in with the guitar and wanted to trade it for something that had a more powerful, more muscular sound. So Ray traded Christopher a Les Paul for it. According to Ray, Stevie Ray Vaughan came in the next day, saw the guitar that Christopher had traded in, played it, and decided he wanted it. Mr. Hennig hadn't even had a chance to clean it up or repair it in any way when --- boom! ---- it went right back out the door. So it went from Christopher Cross to Stevie Ray Vaughan and became one of the most famous guitars in history.

Johnny Horton was reared in Rusk in Cherokee County in east Texas. His family often traveled to California to work as migrant fruit pickers. After graduation from high school in Gallatin, Texas, in 1944, Horton attended the Methodist-affiliated Lon Morris Junior College in Jacksonville, Texas, with a basketball scholarship. He later attended Seattle University and briefly Baylor University in Waco, although he did not graduate from any of these institutions. My dad delivered mail to this young man.
Died a tragic death like most young musicians.

I know I double dipped but I came across a better video. Sorry That Little Ol Band from Texas has been laying it down Texas Style for 40 years. Gibbons born in Houston, Hill in Dallas and Beard from Frankston. Now in their mid-sixties they still can bring the house down

From KVUE AUSTIN -- When the Longhorn Band takes the field on Thanksgiving, they'll be joined by a living legend: Jimmie Vaughan.
Vaughan, who was named the "State Musician" by the legislature this year, is credited with bringing the blues to Austin. He moved to the Capital City from Dallas in the 1960's and his younger brother, Stevie Ray, and other blues artist soon followed.
"The UT Longhorns are going to play the blues," Vaughan said. "Like, for real!"

Blues. Johnny and Edgar Winters were bad *** blues brothers and did Texas proud. Two of my favorite they did. After Lightnin Hopkins and T Bone Walker , 2 brothers out of Beaumont , Texas helped revive Texas blues.

Let’s get closer to home in our area. I have the great pleasure to know the Fidilin Faron Evans. A long time resident of Atascocita. Faron is from a musical Texas family and has shared the stage with such legends as Mickey Gilley, Conway Twitty, and Willie Nelson. If memory serves me right he is from Corpus Christi and as a young one his family had a small live radio show. He still brings country music live to enjoy.

Terry Stafford singing his monster hit "Suspicion," which had earlier been recorded by Elvis. Stafford was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1960. He later wrote "Amarillo By Morning," which Geoge Strait turned into such a memorable song. Terry passed away in 1996 and is buried in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo.

Are we doing anyone contemporary? I would offer up Amanda Shires, born in Lubbock and raised in Lubbock and Mineral Wells. Started playing a pawn shop violin at age 10 and by age 15 joined the famed Texas Playboys the band that backed Bob Wills. Married to indie country favorite Jason Isbell, who most of us know as a former member of the Drive By Truckers.
Her album Down Fell the Doves was my soundtrack during 2013 when I was getting divorced and still breaks my heart to listen to it, it's so incredibly beautiful. The couple welcomed a baby girl this year and I cannot wait to go see Jason when he performs here in February!

Here are Jason and Amanda performing together - Tired of Traveling Alone.

crap - how do I imbed it again?
