chasinghosts : I did not notice if there is a tip jar on the counter or not. I usually don't carry cash. When you swipe card, it asks you if you want to leave a tip. It lets you choose a percentage and calculates the tip amount for you to approve. Tipping is voluntary. It is a personal preference. I'm sure the job entails more than putting a few cookies in a bag. Sure, they get paid minimum wage. I, on the other hand, make way more than minimum wage. I do pick and choose when I tip. For counter service, I usually tip 5%. I don't know the company policy of how the tips are distributed. I doubt the owner keeps them. If the employees didn't get the tips, I don't think they would accept that. I wouldn't. I would be all over social media *****ing about it. Probably even taking legal action. As for the wait staff, I am a 20% or more tipper. Good service usually gets them 30%.
@TheBoz : I'm just saying it's a possible scenario and I have really never heard of this kind of tipping really except the donut gals. Seriously I think it's something you should have to work for if you make more than $2.13 though. I'm just getting tired of seeing everyone with their hand out and not earning it. I've been a server on and off for 46 years and it just doesn't sit right with me when I've waited on tables of 4 that leave less than 10% sometimes, and yes, I've earned a decent tip 99.9% of the time.
