If you've eaten enough wings it's obvious the flappers are superior.

@carol888 : Carol, the wings we eat are in fact 2 separate parts joined at a joint. Drumettes and flats. They are separated and trimmed of excess skin before cooking.

Drumettes at bottom, flat in center. The tip at top is discarded or used for stock.

The drumette is analogous to your upper arm (single bone) flats your forearm (two parallel bones) and the wing tip.

This is definitely a tough descion. The wing is definitely easier to eat if you know what you're doing.

I'll eat both but I prefer flats, the meat is more tender.

As far as I'm concerned, they go "hand-in-hand"....I couldn't have a pile of one or the other, it would have to be an even mix....

Sad thing is....I remember when "wings" were considered a "scrap cut" on the chicken and I could get them for prices like $.79 or $.89 per pound...NOW they are the "KING CUTS" with prices easily exceeding the "ONCE KING" breasts...I can get "boneless" breasts these days everywhere for under $2 per pound, sometimes much lower...

@ParksideRes : I love the tips, ( I get it from my Mom). A crunchy complement to the meaty flat or drum. But I like that you didn't toss them.....
