raw they taste like a cross between a carrot and potato

I can do a carrot and a potato .. what about cooked, extra funk or ain't half bad

At 51 I'm thinking it's time to try eating them again but I can't remember what they taste like. And I like my veggies but I got a mental block that tells me ' don't do it' from my childhood

@ginx : I never liked beets but I had a salad made by a trained chef that had spirals of beets. It was outstanding!

Cooked beets are a bit sweet. If you like sweet, you should be good.

Agree, cooked beets lean toward a sweet veggie. I was fed a lot as a little tyke and I guess developed an affinity toward them, but then I never met a veggie I didn't like. Now a days I lean toward pickled beets and load up on them at salad bars……

@ginx : For me it's more of the texture than the flavor. So, I instantly make icky face.

@ginx :They have a more unique flavor so I'd say they taste like.........Beets.....They're good for you, don't listen to the "haters".....But be careful about their juices as they'll easily stain your clothes and whatever else you get them on....Many songs sang about them, such as:Gladys Knight & The Pips - Every Beet Of My Heart
