KSA Parks officials say alligator sightings are not entirely uncommon for areas bordering Lake Houston waterways and have been reported many times over the years.Jul 13, 2018.

Note-Someone spotted an alligator the other day in Lake Houston. I'll try to find picture.

ATASCOCITA, TX.Atascocita is a large development located north and south of Farm Road 1960 about six miles east of Humble and eighteen miles northeast of downtown Houston in northeastern Harris County. Construction in the area began in the 1970s, and the community was named after the historic Atascosito Road that followed the route of present-day FM 1960. In the 1990s Atascocita was one of the fastest growing developments in the Houston area and encompassed more than fifteen neighborhoods. In 2000 the unincorporated community had a population of 35,757 and supported numerous retail and service businesses, churches, a library, and a volunteer fire department. Atascocita was part of the Humble Independent School District, and Harris County provided police protection. Bordered on the east by Lake Houston, the community contained several parks, country clubs, and golf courses, including Tour 18, a recreation of some of America's most celebrated golf holes. Atascocita was also home to a 2,200-bed state jail and 450-bed residential probation program. By 2010 the population had almost doubled to 65,844, and the community promoted itself as one of the "fastest growing areas in the Houston region" in the 2010s.

as a child back in the 1950 . my dad would take us for drives in the country and at that time atascocita humble porter were considered in the country. 1960 used to be called jack rabbit road. we used to see coyote pelts hanging on the fences , ranchers would shoot them . i also remember at age 11 in 1960 my dad's boss had a membership at the country club which at that time was right at the big a. it was gated at that time. on the huffman side of the lake both the boat lunch and the restaurant were there. my dad would take us and let us fish off the barge that was there by the restaurant.
