Thank you sweetie. I was asking about the fontina dip at the top of this page. But yours sounds delish as well.

@TheCatsMeow :

Oh! Emoticon

I'll post that later...don't really use measurements, but I can wing it! It's an artery-slamming app for sure. I'll get it together for you! Emoticon

@Sammee It's definitely for just one bag. If you double the recipe, I would make sure all the ingredients are doubled. I have a large food processor, and one bag plus the other ingredients just barely fit, until you process. If you use three bags, you will change the flavor.

@Catmae Thanks, that's what I thought. I have to get a food processor because I forgot that ours bit the dust. Do you think it would work in a blender on chop mode?

Best Pie you will ever eat (I guarantee you)....a 100 yr old family recipe (my grandma actually got it off the back of an imperial sugar package back then). It's called Jeff Davis Pie (we've googled it before and found variations but never found the original recipe like we have). It will look like a Buttermilk Pie but will taste nothing like it. As good as it on T/giving day....A cold piece (1/2 of Pie for me...but for most a piece) with a cup of coffee Fri morning and you'll think you're in heaven!

OK here is the JD pie recipe--- in your mothers own handwriting- 3 cups sugar 1 cup butter 1 T flour 1/4 t salt 4 eggs beaten lightly 1 cup milk 1 t vanilla Cream butter&, sugar. Blend flour, salt, and vanilla into mixture and beat well. Add eggs, then stir in milk. Pour into 2 9" pie shells and bake at 450 for 10 minutes. Then reduce heat to 350 and bake for 30 minutes or until firm.

Seems simple....but the key to a good JD pie is not burning the top while making sure the inside is firm (not runny). The top will bubble and get dark....just don't want it too dark. Let them cool overnight before putting in the fridge the next day (try not to eat a piece before it's cold as it's better cold-I've never been able to wait in the last 40 yrs but I'm guessing it can be done).

Grew up on Jeff Davis pie baked by women born at the turn of the last century..........It.Was.Awsome.....not even gonna try to duplicate it.

I couldn't do it justice.....much less make my ancestors proud....so, I'll just smoke meat better than family men born at the turn of the century......so sorry Grand Pappy.......wish you were still around to break bread with.......

"Youth is wasted on the young"....my grandfather's quote. Prolly stole it from Twain..........he'd prolly dispute that and claim he told that to Twain. Argumentative SOB........hmmmm........genetic? Nah...

Back to recipes.......smoking a turkey on my Orien Cooker to take a gathering of my oldest DS's in laws.....no pressure.....he only advertised how awesome it is. He was never told of the failures bailed out by backups of the store boughts.....lol......gonna do my best....

@cador
You struck a memory here. I remember momma making these. Will have to go to her old cookbooks from back home to see if I can find an East Texas version.
Thanks!

@brightlights I don't always measure either, particularly if I've created the recipe. Just ingredients are good; I can eyeball!👀👀

@MooMaw If you like a little sizzle: ginger beer (it's like root beer, only made from ginger and not sassafras root), crushed mint and 1/3 lime squeezed in! Refreshing. They serve these at P F Changs.

Now for the alky version which is called a Moscow mule: add 2 ounces vodka. Cheers!

here goes my contribution but I don't cook like y'all no way!!! I'm all about easy!!!

Cranberry Pie

10" pie plate:
2 cups fresh cranberries
1/2 cup chopped nuts (your choice) walnuts/pecans
1/2 sugar

Mix together and pour over cranberries and nuts:

3/4 cup melted butter
1 c sugar
1 c flour
1 tsp almond or vanilla extract
2 beaten eggs

Mix and pour into pie plate over cranberries and nuts.
Bake 350 @ 35-40 min.. It makes its own crust. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

***** I'm going to try this with a can of cherry pie filling too.
