But I'm confused, if the insurance approved the claim and recommended the company I would hold them responsible. That's why I have insurance!!!

@lynnsgirl : I don't think the insurance company recommended the contractor; the insurance company approved the claim; she hired the contractor and I would never let a contractor move my belongings out of my home (that, in and of itself, is a huge red flag to me) and store them, I'd handle that myself

And never pay upfront. And never pay to get your belongings back. The police should've been involved at the very beginning when no work was done. She needs to call the attorney general and get him involved

@lynnsgirl : a insurance can not recommend a contractor legally . if an adjustor brings a contractor with him then he can lose his job. after hurricane ike in 2008 i had a lot of damage and trying to find a honest contractor was hard. when i called a fireplace contractor for an estimate on the fireplace who was referred to me by the fireplace store in humble. he came and we talked about how hard it was for me to find a honest contractor. he said he had a friend that he could contact for me. so dwayne who owned west bay contractors and he looked at my damage. estimates i was getting was over what the insurance had given me. west bay contractor stayed with me and met with the insurance adjustors and he stayed with me even when i had to get an attorney and sue the insurance company. so when we won dwayne was who we got to repair the damages. .
