America marches on

I'm old enough to remember George Wallace standing in the doors saying "never" - I had friends in the Navy who were arrested and beaten on the MS freedom rides- first married my wife could not get credit without my signature.
In this election - 28 percent of Congress are women with several ex- military. MS electing a black senator, we now have several black governors , one a woman, a Latino governor and an American Indian governor. Mayors of two largest cities are progressives. 8 transgenders were elected to various local or state offices.
Let's not forget how far we have advanced in a lifetime

tflea :
Because I'm one of the oldest people on this forum, there was still segregation when I was young. I remember seeing signs saying "colored" or "white only". So, the strides we've made in my lifetime are enormous.

tflea: be careful about mentioning the 8 transgenders, I posted a photo of them and the post was locked shortly thereafter. And ps: at least one was elected to the U.S. Congress, not all local and state.

Too bad we couldn't just say a bunch of Patriotic, American Loving Citizens just got voted in. But when you have a melting pot that doesn't melt anymore you have a bunch of different people with a bunch of different agendas. What you get is a Delia Ramirez, a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois who said in August 2025, while speaking Spanish at a political gathering in Mexico City, she said:
"I'm a proud Guatemalan before I'm an American
Yep, that is what you are going to be getting in this country. You have a Muslim that believes in Islam and his agenda will be just that.

Most this happened while I drove truck across this great land and the interstate system was far was being finished.

Atascocita888 : I blame the woke/DEI/pronoun mentality for making us afraid to offend anyone. I don't mind having a melting pot so long as they are pro America. Assimilate when you get here in America, follow our laws, respect other religions but don't allow those religions to rule over you or America. My problem is that too many people who vote vote on identity and not on records. The first time I witnessed that was in high school when Clinton was running and the librarians were saying that he reminds them of John F Kennedy. They were voting for him because of that reason. I couldn't believe I heard that at 17 years old. It made no sense to me then and still doesn't.

tflea: That's all well and good, as long as we consider ourselves Americans first, love our country, and put its interests first. Whether we're Black, Latino, women, transgender, progressive, or anything else, we are all Americans. Our differences don't have to divide us. At the end of the day, we're all in this together.

We seem to take 2 steps forward and 1 step back.
Trump brought us more than just a step back, more like a jump.
Midterms showed we are ready to move forward, and away from him and MAGA
