Anyone aware of car break-ins in the area.

Just received this from my kid's daycare -

Dear Primrose Parents,

We were notified of a rise in car break-ins at surrounding schools in the area. Although we believe we are lower risk with the current way we are handling drop off and pick up procedures combined with where you park, we still wanted to send a reminder. We advise you to remove keys and belongings when leaving your vehicle and to not leave it running in the parking lot.

@West-Tex : yeah, but this sounds like an increase in the area. They have never sent out an email like this before. Anyone live in a neighborhood in Atascocita that has seen a recent increase in break-ins or is anyone aware of any increases in break-ins at local schools?

@mastiffrex : the thugs bounce around all over town. There is no real legal deterrent to being a thief.

@mastiffrex : They seem to go through this every few months, especially at the grade schoold, because they don't tend to have as much outdoor traffic during the day. There has been an uptick in Atascocita Trace, Clayton's Crossing and a few other areas on this side of town. Nothing that isn't preventable by people following the normal procedures like removing all items from vehicles and keeping them locked at all hours of the day. The more people that are leaving purses and guns and such in the cars and leaving them unlocked, the more cars are gotten into and articles that are stolen.

Common sense is not to leave valuable items in your vehicle where the bad guys can see it. You might as well put a sign on your car - purse and iphone on passenger seat, laptop on floor board, gun case semi hidden under seat - come and get it. Take out stuff and LOCK your vehicle. Even better over for over night break-ins, make room in your garage. Also when pumping gas - LOCK you vehicle, even if you are right next to your drivers door. The bad guys are crouching down and pulling open the passenger door - pulling on...any guesses....you got it valuable items on the seat and leaving in less than 20 seconds. It's not Rocket Science people!!
