For a child, Nightlight... 2nd best is the pediatric ER at Kingwood.

Actually they're both pretty good. It's about the same wait time.

@TexasGal : if you have time, call your insurance and ask them which ones they cover, so you are not surprised with a big bill. I realize you might need something immediately.

double thumbs up for TexasFan1. makes a huge difference on the bill. Find out before you need it and pin it to the fridge.

@cousindan : That's what I did when someone else on here mentioned it a few years ago. Otherwise I never would have gone to one. I was scared of getting a huge bill!

I've heard the ones that have EMERGENCY as part of their name operate under different rules and can charge what they want.

There is a HUGE difference between "Take insurance" and "In Network"

Always ask for "in network" providers even for PPOs. They are almost always lower cost. All places "take" a particular insurance but they could be out of network and get little coverage from the insurance company. As long as its not zero coverage they can say the "take" that insurance.

Tricky folks. Everyone knows what you mean when you ask if they "take"
Aetna, Cigna or United healthcare. It means as close to fully covered as possible.

Its also not just the % of covered care but more importantly is the negotiated price for services. I've seen anywhere from 1/2 to 1/100th the cost of a service. Some labs are even free due to negotiated price so if you are on a 80/20 plan you pay 20% of a much lower cost for a service. outside of network providers don't have this an pass the full cost to the patient.

So many traps to get your money when you are not thinking financially due to your or your loved ones illness. shame..

@jrshabby : The ones that have EMERGENCY in their name are in fact real ER's (stand alone ER's) and yes they are much higher than an urgent care clinic. Many of them don't take insurance and charge exorbitant fees. IF you need to go to an ER I would just go to the hospital ER.
