just like astrokatz our family was faced with my illness.i was diagnosed with sarcoidosis last august and i was referred to a rheumatologist in humble. for 6 months he had me on prednisone at 40 mg duuring that time i had a 40 pound weightt gain sleepness plus i ate all hours of the day and night. i developed tremors. after 6 months i told him no more i couldnt take the side effects any more so he then put me on remicade infusions. i then had congested heart failure not once but 4 times. in may the dr then told me thatremicade can cause congested heart failure. he knew this the entire time and didnt stop the infusions. i then went for a second opinion from a rheumatologist in the woodlands and he looked over all my records and told me i never had sarcoidosis. he sent me to a pulmonary specialist who also said i never had it and that it was my asthma tha ti have had since 1984.the new dr also said that the remicade had not been approved for sarcoidosis. i and my family went through hell never knowing if i was going to die. then my cardiac put me on laxis at high doses plus another diuretic and put me into kidney failure. i changed a lot of my drs and i am now back on the road to recovery. my kidneys are coming back and even though i have to use a walker i am much better now.i urge everyoe to get a second opinion if something doesnt feel right. at 71 i am not ready to leave this world just yet

Doctors can suck, second opinions and even third can be necessary.

@eksda : So darn sorry that you suffered because of misdiagnosis!!! (😡 ... Makes me so darn mad)! I heard that Prednisone can definitely cause weight gain. (I had a friend who took it for a time and had trouble with the weight gain). Thankfully, you went for a second opinion and found a doctor who knew his stuff and cared enough to send you to a doctor he knew would be able to truly help you. I, myself, am distrustful of doctors in general; however, I realize that there are actually some good ones out there. Sometimes, the trick is weeding out the bad ones. I know that they got sick of me and my questions when my husband was very ill a couple years back. I was like a bull dog with a bone. I just would not let go. Luckily, my husband has a physician who rates A PLUS PLUS in my book. If she does not know the answer, one can bet that she will research it and/or find another doctor who knows. She took very good care of my husband when he was ill. The specialists she suggested for his case were excellent. He recovered thanks to the right doctors and the right meds. *** I am so glad that you are on the road of recovery. Your story is one we should all pay attention to. We cannot always rely on the medical "experts." We have to listen to our inner voice and get second and even third opinions often times. Thank God for you! Continue to heal! 💜💜💜

One thing I learned going through my hubby's prolonged illness and death, is doctors are human and you are not their only patient. My hubby caught nurses trying to give him the wrong meds. He asked every time they would bring in the meds to give him, what is this & what is it for? If they couldn't tell him, he didn't take it. It wasn't the nurses fault, they are overworked as it is. I'm just saying you are your own best advocate for your health care. I questioned one doctor & he called me hysterical. Turns out I was correct with my concern. We never saw that doctor again. Glad you are on the road to recovery.

@eksda : Sometimes all we can do is take our best shot. It's difficult enough to be sick without everything that you can gone through. God's Blessings to You, Sweetheart. Wishing you healthier days and am glad to hear that you are improving everyday. Glad that you have a good doctor who helps guide you through the maze of doctors. (Lol ... That is no joke .... it can be a maze can it not be)!

Very sorry you went through all that. My wife also had Sarcoidosis that attacked her lung. As you are aware it can attack anywhere and mostly vital organs. It attacked her one lung and made leather out of it and it stopped functioning at 100%. Luckily, we were referred to a Specialist Dr, Casar downtown at the Methodist. They took 1/3rd of her lung out. We are fortunate, she just has less capacity of air. Again, sorry to hear what you went through.
