My mom sewed, so when I was very young, every thing was hand sewn or hand me downs from my 3 brothers. But I doubt she used a flour sack.

@MooMaw : My dad says my grandma used to make them clothes out of feed sacks - but only the nice sacks - being serious!

I had several dresses from flour sacks when I was little. The flour sack material was very soft cotton and came in different colors and patterns, usually of flowers.
Towsack material was coarse burlap.
