So I got a speeding ticket today in Texas City. If I go to court and the officer is there, can I still opt to take defensive driving? Or should I just go ahead and request defensive driving and skip court? I blame Prince...he makes me wanna drive fast.

@Luckysis :
Usually when you show up on court date and the officer shows up too, you're toast. If you're eligible for defensive driving, that's the safe bet.

@Luckysis : Just take the defensive driving route. It's your best bet. Now don't be like me and get your second speeding ticket in ten years two weeks after completing defensive driving.

Who issued the citation and where is ur court appearance? I would hire one of the ticket attorneys to see uf they can get u deferred, but u can ask for it yourself. I prefer representation

And the kick drum is the fault

@luckysis i used sullolaw.com spent 80
went to court, all the people they repped that were easy dismissals were called and dismissed
the few left overs were the ones where the cop was going to show, whatever. so they look for reasons to make a motion to dismiss. we were getting set to go to trial over it and i asked that she pursue deferred, i didnt really care about anything else. i just wanted to pursue deferred with an atty instead of taking any chances asking for myself.
the risk was still there that they would make me take defensive driving.

i got deferred and had to pay court costs, which was another 140 bucks or so. (this was harris county pct whatever from a dps officer)

the cop showed, but we never got it on

next time, listen to insatiable and chill

@Luckysis : Once you go to court that option is off the table. Call them and let them know if you want to take the defensive driving course. ASAP They will give you a deadline date and the amount you need to send them by money order or cashiers check.

@redneckroy :
Good Advice (best-cause DA is much better than DD), except even better, you can call. 90 plus % of departments have the DA form ready to send with instructions, I you sign it, get it back in the mail with a MO, it's a pretty simple deal. Last one cost me like $70, then $150 after the 6 mths.
It's a "just pay me" deal.
I'm all about Deferred Emoticon
