Coronavirus and Stockpiling

So are any of you stockpiling non-perishable food, meds, water, supplies, etc. ahead of this whole thing? Looks like a LOT of peeps are going a little nuts in that realm!

I don't get it. I mean, we're always kind of somewhat "prepared" as a matter of course (enough for a hurricane or something), but am I missing something? Emoticon

I just replenished our hurricane supplies a bit earlier than I would normally. After Ike and 2 weeks of that crap, I keep enough food on hand for a month. We'll eat what we don't use the following winter. It's proven trickier this time around since DH has diabetes, because most shelf-stable meals are loaded with unhealthy carbs. I ordered some Right Rice (veggie based), canned veggies and we have tons of meat already in the freezer. My FIL is always bringing meat to us...lol.

@brightlights : Like you we are mostly prepared on any given day (a good amount of water and non perishable items on hand). But that being said I'm going to buy more and toilet paper! Because if something broke in the area and we had to be under quarantine I don't want to be rushing around. At least with a hurricane you have some warning.

We always keep 5 or 6 cases of 48ct water bottles in the garage, and always TONS of toilet paper (probably leftover trauma from those starving college days 😂).

Had to pop into HEB on Tuesday, and some people seemed to be going berserk with buying in bulk. Idk...I'm just not seeing the need for this level of panic just yet.

Why would you need to stockpile water for this?

@brightlights : We've bought extra paper products (towels, TP), meds, and sanitizer. I think we're good on food for now.

Honestly, it's a good idea to keep on hand some extra of what you normally need, since people like to panic and wipe out the stores in a couple of hours. All it will probably take is a case or two of Coronavirus in Houston to cause a panic like that.

@MooMaw : The airline industry is already at high risk. We live in an airport community (pilots, flight attendants, baggage handlers, so on and so forth). It's probably not a bad idea to be somewhat prepared.

I'm sure most could survive a couple of weeks on just what they normally have in their pantries and freezer - just would have to get creative.

However, like someone mentioned earlier running out of toilet paper would make it a crappy situation!
