Agent, or a promoter to listen to you, they sign you and get the job done. That's all I can tell you. Good luck

#1 name your band free beer, when the bar puts your name on the marquis, people will show up thinking the bar is giving away free beer.

@Fairlane67 : I spent the 90s as a musician. In fact, I am still playing and have a great band gigging around town. And I'm still tired of being broke. Emoticon

@Humbleguy25 : Back in the day, the bands management and the record company took care of all that.

These days, you just have to play everywhere you can, for next to nothing, to get your name out there. Form good relationships with people in the clubs and other bands and just start networking. The band I was in in the late 80'/early 90's wasn't exactly rolling in money, but I was pretty good with people and got us a ton of shows just by schmoozing at other shows and getting invited to parties to network.

This was before the internet, though, when you actually had to talk to people face to face or on a land line. Emoticon

@johnson : It's a really rough biz. I have a good friend who is a literal 60's, 70's Rock Star. Google Paul Gurvitz aka Paul Curtis (was temporarily anglecized in the 60's) . His wall is filled with Platinum and Gold and he cannot get anyone to help him get a tour together. He still produces, writes, plays & sings some really great stuff and he can't get it heard unless he promotes it himself most of the time. I tell everyone when they ask, your best bet to be seen by the right people these days is to get a gig during South X Southwest in Austin.

@Fairlane67 : I know right? But it's hard to quit once it's in your blood. We love it. We play covers, mostly rock but also play some country spanning 7 decades. A wide variety. We're currently rehearsing for a NYE gig at one of the country clubs around here.

I am not, nor ever have been, a professional musician. But a good friend of my was and is. His comment was that if you are playing for the money, to make it big, you will never make it. It will wear you out - financially and emotionally. But, if you play because you love it and love performing, you will never get tired of it and you may not get rich, but you will have a wonderful time - doing what you truly love.
