I need vacuum recommendations for a vac that does well with pet fur and long human hair. My Oreck is dying a slow death, but has always done really well with sucking up fur of a very fluffy dog and long girly hair. Now I want a vac with onboard attachments, which Oreck doesn't make. Does anybody have a vac with attachments, that cleans carpets thoroughly, that they don't have to take off the roller to clean off wrapped around fur and hair?

I use a website called www. wirecutter.com for lots of recommendations. They do the research for you. I searched for the best vacuum cleaner, and they recommended the Shark Navigator Lift Away.

@FNULNU1954 : Thanks! I will definitely check it out. I got tired of reading online reviews after a couple of hours last night...and not knowing if they're even actual customer reviews.

@Sammee : I know what you mean... I feel like I research everything to death these days, and, even then, I most often don't make the right choice!! That's why I like that website. It's like they do the research for you!!

I just use a cheap Bissell, and clean it out at the hose entry on a regular basis. Have had my last one about 9 years and still going strong.

Do any of you have the shark navigator NV352 that is recommended in the article? Thinking of adding to my Christmas list.

@TXNS_fan : I got Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Lift-Off and this thing can suck the hair off of a cat. I just got it delivered today and it has sucked up some stuff that was deep down in my carpet that I had no idea was even there! I have been using an Oreck, which has a lot of cleaning power, but is 20+ years old and the handle was starting to break. So I felt confident that my carpet was clean. But, today I slowly and thoroughly vacuumed the livingroom 3 times with the new vacuum and each time it was still sucking up stuff into the cannister. I highly recommend this vac. It has a rolling brush tool for furniture, along with a lighted crevice tool, it swivels, it has a lift-off cannister so you can take the tools to the stairs or out to your car. It is heavier than I'm used to, but the Oreck I had was really, really light...its big marketing angle...no on-board tools. I wanted tools this time around.
