@DSAtas :

Immigrants pay more than their fair share of taxes and make vital contributions to the United States. Despite their hard work and the fact that their wages are often low, immigrants are not eligible for food stamps or other basic safety-net services on the same basis as U.S. citizens.

Food stamps are available only to U.S. citizens and limited categories of lawfully residing immigrants.

Undocumented immigrants are not, and never have been, eligible for food stamps.
In 1996, most lawfully residing immigrants were cut from the Food Stamp Program, including many immigrants who had been living and working in the U.S. for several years. Recognizing the severe inequity and harm caused by this policy, Congress enacted two bills (in 1998 and 2002) restoring eligibility for some categories of immigrants.
However, most lawfully residing adults cannot receive food stamps on the same basis as citizens until they have been in the U.S. in a specified "qualified" immigrant status for five years.

@HumbleGirl : Yet here is at least one source stating there is a program for cash assistance and medical care for refugees waiting for asylum:
www.dshs.wa.gov/esa/ community-services-o ffices/refugee-cash- assistance

How else would they survive? They come with nothing. My bad for stating they get Medicaid and welfare assistance. Looks like it's just called something else.

I learned about these benefits years ago when working for a UTMB maternal child clinic. It's under a different name than typical benefits for citizens. But it is indeed benefits from tax dollars.

Those seeking asylum at our borders are released while they wait for asylum. This makes them temporarily legally here. This is the reason so many are requesting asylum at the border rather than just coming on in.

chasinghosts : No, these are recent articles. "Not having meat" means not enough details.

@HumbleGirl : This is what I meant by recycling, these is by taking tidbits from various sources and then creating a new today's story.

@EastTexGal : This is a State run agency, which has zero to do with Texas dollars. What you are talking about at UTMB if anything is probably funded by private & charitable donations.

"The Del Rio Sector, where the arrests were made, has seen over 44,000 apprehensions of illegal immigrants so far this year, more than double the total number of arrests made during the previous year. " I see this as the problem, the 44,000.

@chasinghosts : It was not a private fund at UTMB, sorry. It's been many years since I worked there but I do remember being told that the money was a fund set aside by the state of Texas "title somethingorother" in legislation only for "undocumented immigrant" prenatal and newborn care. It included WIC for all, and Medicaid automatically for the baby once born on our soil. It paid for ALL maternity related health care.

@DSAtas : I wouldn't go that far or feel such hatred as exudes from your posts....

But I am for border control - humane border control - in accordance with our laws. Since our laws allow for asylum - we have to allow it unless changed. That's not "a Democrat thing".

asylum = the protection granted by a nation to someone who has left their native country as a political refugee.

What % of the ILLEGAL ALLIENS do think are true asylum seekers?

I am betting 99.9999% of the ILLEGAL ALIENS are not ASYLUM seekers.
