I think it is more than just food. I remember back in the eighties I was stationed in Germany and many Germans did not use deodorant. We tend to judge others by our standards, but my attitudes when one is a visitor or resident in another country are based upon the book "The Ugly American". I believe the onus is on the visitor to assimilate not the host nation.

"The book depicts the failures of the U.S. diplomatic corps, whose insensitivity to local language, culture, customs and refusal to integrate was in marked contrast to the polished abilities of Eastern Bloc (primarily Soviet) diplomacy and led to Communist diplomatic success overseas.[2] The book caused a sensation in diplomatic circles. John F. Kennedy was so impressed with the book that he sent a copy to each of his colleagues in the United States Senate. The book was one of the biggest bestsellers in the U.S., has been in print continuously since it appeared, and is one of the most politically influential novels in all of American literature.[1]"

My 5th-grade teacher, Mr. Starkey, told us as a whole class that we all stink. He said to go home and ask our parents for deodorant and use it, take a daily shower and brush our teeth in the mornings because he was tired of smelling us. Lol! No sugar-coating it, just straight and to the point.

Nothing is more disgusting than being in a room with someone who stinks- and that includes smoke and the overuse of perfume or the flat out cheap toxic ones. Have some concern for others.

It's hard to be around someone who stinks and it's not because you worked out. If you don't use DO for the BO, take a wipey and get in there and freshen up. I get it they don't want to use deodorant it's ok, I respect that but respect our sniffers.

When I taught many were low income. We bought the students a package of deo, axe, toothbrush and toothpaste. Each had a ziplock bag and we kept them for daily use....
